Cancer Journey Handbook
for Travellers, Carers & Friends

When my husband, Butch, was diagnosed with cancer I searched high and low for a book that would help me identify what we were going through, what we were experiencing and what to expect. I could find lots of clinical-type books that told me impersonally what to do and what not to do, but I couldn't find anything that prepared me emotionally. Late in 2007 while talking to some 'new' carers, I put their minds at rest about things they were experiencing. After two years into the journey, I could tell them that these were all normal 'carer side effects'. So the idea of this book was born.
Before 2006 I didn't know anything about cancer.....more

Grieving with Honour

During the last two and a half years I have read books and talked to people who tell me grieving is 'a difficult time'.  I don't know about you, but I feel that has to be the understatement of the year!  It isn't just difficult, it's really really really really difficult.  (I didn't want to swear in front of you to make a point, so I thought writing it four times would let you know just how hard I believe it is)

When I was reading books dealing with grief, I desperately wanted to read grief is gut wrenching, life doesn’t feel like its worth living and that even a simple activity can require superhuman strength. I wanted to hear how sad and bad it was for others so I could relate to them and say 'Wow! It’s normal for me to feel that way!'

Grieving with Honour is a ‘warts and all’ handbook.  Although I visualise it as a self-help book, this is my story.  I don’t believe in holding back on events and occurrences I wish I could have changed, wasteful times, where I wallowed in self pity or depression, times I literally shut my body down, or even contemplated suicide.  My story is real, emotional and hopefully, will provide assistance and insight on others embarking on a similar expedition.  I believe by sharing my thoughts, experiences and emotions, I can help others to feel less isolated and know what they are going through is normal.

Email me to express an interest in Grieving with Honour - I will advise you when it is ready for purchase.

Butch's Journey
- through my eyes -

During Butch's cancer journey I wrote many emails to family and friends, as well as keeping a journal for the last nine months of our life together.

Writing Butch's Journey has been a healing process for me, as well as a way to reach out to others on a cancer/carer journey.

This book is a real story of Butch's cancer journey, full of insights, laughter, emotions and experiences. This is my account of the many moments we shared together until he passed away in September 2008. I hope it will make you laugh, make you cry and most importantly, make you think... (It did this for me as I wrote it!)

I am currently in the process of editing/proofreading it and it will be sold online as an e-book. If you would like a copy, please let me know and I will email you once it is completed.
